HW for Friday 9/11

Read Charles Baudelaire's Invitation to the Voyage (pp 786-789) and answer guestions 1, 3, and 5 on p. 789.

  1. 1. The line "your treacherous eyes' is contrasted with the line "my child, my sister" because "treacherous" is associated with her feelings that is anger. When she is angry her eyes show that from her innocent looks.

    3. The first stanza reveals that love is peaceful and a mystery because we have to search for it. It also reveals paradise because of the colors that are visible. Love is also very distant, which is why it is a mystery.

    5. The imagery in "pleasure", "richness" and "quietness" all shows paradise and peace. Richness shows that life/love/paradise is full and limitless to the person. Pleasure shows that it is enjoyable to the person. Quietness shows peace.
